What has a Republican done for the country lately?

advertisement

Notice McCain and the Republicans have gone back to the Rovian playbook by trying to refocus our collective attention back to national security. In other words, how dare the American people say it's the economy stupid when we know it is national security, and the Republicans are the ones who can keep you safe.

Well I say bring it on. Yes, let's focus on the war a little since the Republicans think they have convinced the American people, along with the help of the media, that the "surge" is working and the violence is down. Never mind that Iraqi citizens are suffering night and day--the "surge" is working. Never mind that the Iraqi government is just as dysfunctional today as it was yesterday the--"surge" is working. Never mind that unholy and dubious alliances have been formed to keep the violence down--you guessed it--the "surge" is working. John McCain told you what he was going to do when he said, "...my friends, there will be more wars" and we may be in Iraq for a hundred years.

Okay all of the talented folks out there it is time to set the Republican record straight on their national security effort and anything else they have done to bring us to the place we are today. Please join in an effort to educate folks about how much national security under the Republicans has cost us. Let's talk about the lie they continue to spin about how safe we have been since 9/11 because we have not had any more attacks on American soil.

Whatever the cost of this "war on terror" the astonishing fact is the perpetrators of 9/11 are still alive today. The Republicans have not closed down our borders and continue to resist doing so. They continue disastrous trade policies and do not protect American jobs labeling people "protectionists" if they dare disagree. Let's break it down to the American people the daily cost of the war McCain is talking about continuing spending for in the face of staggering debt. Let's expose how it will surely crush our America under the weight of its massive debts. Maybe America will understand if we break it down.

Let's remind them how the Republicans block any and all resolutions to remove our military from Iraq and end America's participation in Iraq's civil war.

Let's remind them al Qaeda WAS NOT IN IRAQ before George W. Bush ordered our military into combat despite the spin lies and Republican lie that they are the reason we continue to fight in Iraq.

Let's remind them who benefits from continuing this devastating war and who has benefited from this war.

Let's remind them exactly who benefits from making George W. Bush's disastrous tax cuts permanent.

Let's remind them how the Republicans intend to cut domestic programs while paying for a war that is never-ending.

Let's remind them how under George W. Bush, Dick Cheney and the Republicans our freedom has slowly eroded under the guise of national security.

Let's remind them how Republicans have spent more of the treasury than anyone before them and what they spent it on.

Let's remind them of the George W. Bush who never met a spending bill he did not like until the Democrats took over congress.

Let's remind them who the real Republican Kings and Queens of earmarks are and those who now cry foul and want to fix the problem.

Let's remind them how much the Republicans care about our soldiers and the Republican cries of being "unpatriotic" if anyone had the temerity to criticize the handling of our veterans and the war. Tell them about how the impact of the war on the VA system was never considered prior to invading a sovereign country.

Let's remind them of the effect this Republican war has had on families' lives--men and women who have been maimed and mutilated, those who have brain injuries and those who are just plain injured from being in the combat zone for so long.

Let's remind them how the Republicans have broken the military and tell them the cost of the broken military in terms of lives.

Let's remind them the cost of a broken military in terms of manpower and equipment.

Let's remind them how under the Republicans and their plans the rich get richer...

Let's remind them how the Republicans continue to undermine the middle class with their unfair and unbalanced trade policies and breaks for companies doing business overseas.

Let's remind them how John McCain is just another George W. Bush and it will just be more of the same.

Let's remind them daily of the ultimate sacrifice our military continues to make while politicians fight over who is right and who is wrong--should they leave or should they stay.

John McCain cannot bring people together and he cannot bring this country together. He neither has the temperament nor the time. He cannot even bring his own party together except by force or a common goal to defeat Hillary Clinton if she is the Democratic nominee. Get the real story from real people. No more Bushes, Clintons and the likes of John McCain and old guys with old ideas and no vision. Our country and the world deserve better.

To answer the title question: Not a darn thing, period.

It is time to take back our country.

This is my Will.I.Am moment. YouTube video anyone? The message must get out and the story must be told now.

Yes We Can!

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Amen and Thank You for documenting all their failures in one place! Looking at everything the Repubs have messed up over the last 8 years, part of me thinks that the Dems are going to sweep this election easily. But part of me is scared to death that with some fear-mongering and a little election-rigging the GOP is going to put itself in power for 4 more years.

Well, I think it is up to us Jace to make sure another election is not hijacked by the Republican party and the SCOTUS.

Thanks for your comment. This is a call to action to educate...Ask yourself what you can do to spread the word?

I guess the next question should be, what has a Democrat done for the country lately?

I think the answer clearly points to a third party or independent candidate come November :-)

That would be nice, but I'm afraid that the Ron Paul ship has sailed, and it doesn't look like Bloomberg is even going to leave port. And Nader's just a little dingy, in more ways than one.

Well, after years under Republican rule there is not much the Democrats can do. They were not given enough seats in congress to constitute a real majority in that they cannot override anything the Decider does without Republican support. People need to really understand that.

Yes, I believe the Democrats have not shown ANY backbone when it comes to standing up to Bush and Cheney. I fault the very disappointing Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid for that. Instead of playing hard ball they play let the bully have his way.

Thanks everybody for your votes and comments.

Democrats need to understand that they could have caused an all out stalemate, and waited until the Republicans gave in - rather than giving into their every demand themselves.

Agreed Henry but I think it all begins with the leadership. Why they quiver and shake for GWB and Cheney is a mystery to me especially since they had the support. Once they gave in, it was all over...

Thanks.
